MEET THE OWNER
Sheila Rich
Sheila is a native of Oahu, Hawaii. After moving to the 'mainland' for her grade school years, she found herself back on Oahu studying for an Art degree at Brigham Young University-Hawaii in Laie.
She now resides with her family in Kaaawa. When her keiki were small, they would find themselves at beaches all over the north shore. That is when she fell in love with diving and beach combing and searching for "just one more shell".
Back then, there were only a small handful of beach inspired jewelry businesses in Hawaii and she never found a brand that she loved and wanted to buy from. That's when she started making her own pieces. After making jewelry for friends and family she was encouraged to start selling, and in 2015 Emakai was born. Emakai's brand is known for its natural and unique designs that are feminine, dainty, and simple.
Her work bench is still in Kaaawa, where she lives with her husband and her three kids: Emmi, Makana, and Kailani. The name, Emakai, comes from a blend of their names.
"I strive to offer quality made jewelry at an affordable price, with simple and dainty designs. Living near the ocean, I incorporate a lot of the seaglass, seashells, sea pottery, and tiles that I collect. As an art major graduate, my latest passion has been to blend my beach finds with watercolors to create art pieces that are truly one of a kind. I hope you enjoy each piece of jewelry and art, just as much as I have enjoyed making them." -Sheila
